An old photo from when we used to live in Sete, France. We saw this boat tied off about 40 feet from the shore one evening while out for a bike ride.

In honour of my visit later this week to Sete, our old home in France, I thought I’d post this photo of the famous Sete water jousters. Every year they hold water jousting competitions all summer long on the main canal, where teams row their huge jousting boats toward each other with one guy on each boat standing on the rear stage with a lance and shield. The object, of course, is for the guys to knock each other off the stage as the boats pass. In this case it looks like it was a tie.
