Mugdock Castle

Mugdock Castle, Scotland. Canon EOS 40D, f/8, 1/1000 s, ISO 320, 24-105@32 mm.
In a continuation of the castle theme, here is Mugdock Castle, a 13th-century castle located in Mugdock Country Park near Glasgow.  I love the solar panels on top of the main tower. I wonder if they’re original?

A funny thing about this photo is that although it looks like it may have been taken near sunset, it was actually taken during the mid-afternoon on a fairly overcast day.  I decided to experiment with the split-toning tab in Camera RAW to see if I could produce a sunset-esque feel.  After giving the highlights a organge tint and the shadows a dark blue tint, this is the final result.

Ruins of Craigend Castle, Mugdock, Scotland. Canon EOS 40D, f/7.1, 1/640 s, ISO 320, 24-105@24mm.

The ruins of the 17th-century Craigend Castle in Mugdock Country Park, Scotland.   The area around the castle was actually off limits because they’re worried about castle pieces breaking off and falling on people.  For this pic I tried the split-toning tab in Camera Raw to achieve a black and white look but with a blue-ish tint.

Storming the Castle

Carcassonne France. Canon 40D, f/8, ISO 250, 24mm, HDR from three exposures

This is a somewhat old picture taken at the restored walled village and castle of Carcassonne in southern France.   I thought it could be a change of pace from the “everyday” pictures I’ve been posting lately.  The HDR gives this one a bit of an ominous feel, like maybe there’s an evil wizard living in there or something.
